The next Road Race Club reps meeting is the AGM on 1st June at Wide Lane Sports Complex, Eastleigh - 7:30 in the bar, for 7:45 start.  The AGM is where next year's races will be decided.  The committee is recommending 12 races again for next season, with more mandatory races to qualify (8 and ladies teams, and 9 for mens teams). The race list will be based on this season's races, with changes only where there is a compelling case.  Feel free to have your say via your club rep.

30th March 2009

At the March Road Race sub-committee meeting we agreed the following:

Un-notified number or chip swaps is a continuing problem that causes work for race and league organisers, and in the worst cases may be dangerous (e.g if the wrong family is informed of a problem). Clubs need to be proactive about avoiding this, else penalties may have to be applied.

The recommendation to the AGM for next season remained at 12 races, but with a higher qualifying threshold - 9 races for men's teams and 8 for ladies teams.  Individuals' threshold remains at 7 races.

3rd February 2009

At the January Road Race sub-committee meeting we agreed to adjust the scoring system to base both individual and team scores on the race positions relative only to same sex HRRL runners, to make scoring more consistently fair across the race series.  Traditionally the calculations have been made based on positions within the whole race, but this can be unfair because it is subject to the random effects of external runners. I have now adjusted the scores back to Overton.

21st January 2009

The Stubbington 10k took place on a pleasant January morning, and the new course seemed to be very well received indeed - scenic route and largely traffic-free. Congratulations to SGRAC. Race results were a bit delayed due to shenanigans with race numbers being exchanged between thoughtless runners, without informing the race organiser. League results were also a little delayed due to technical glitches - apologies for that.

9th December 2008

Entry forms are availablefor all remaining races (links from fixtures and league summary pages).

Please ensure team runners are wearing a team vest, as per UKA Rules, otherwise they are liable to be discounted from team points.

Events on the Road Seminar at Netley, November 26th Don't worry if you missed this - it was a large success and well attended. It is planned to hold similar seminars around the county for those that could not attend. This is an important meeting for all clubs who stage road races. The meeting is organised by some of the authorities concerned, including local police and councils, and delivered by the responsible experts in their fields.  Details of future events will be notified when made available.

2007-8 league prizes were awarded after the Lordshill 10.

England Athletics is reorganising and the 9 Regional offices are to disappear. More information can be found on http://www.englandathletics.org/restructure with a FAQ section at the bottom.

A new Hampshire Relay race. IBM Hursley have given the go ahead in principle to hosting this event, which has been proposed by Southampton RC. The main action items to make this happen are to confirm Hampshire AA public indemnity insurance cover and finalise a date which avoids as far as possible clashes with other events for the site and the clubs. April has been suggested – perhaps the 5th? An indication of support from the clubs would be welcome – please send to

Please note the new individual leagues scoring system, introduced to accommodate all runners. Each runner's score is the percentage of other same sex runners that he or she is ahead of. For example the winner gets 100, and a runner halfway down the race field will get 50, and so on.

17th June 2008

The HRRL AGM (where the year's race fixtures were finalised) was held at Wide Lane on 16th June. Twelve fixtures for the season have been decided and are updated in the Local Race Diary. Race Directors may update this diary with details of their events - update permission will be granted on request to the league secretary (see contact page).  If any event is cancelled it will be discarded from the league.

The league was extended to 12 races partly to allow for a potential increase in the risk of cancellations, due to new Health and Safety policies. It also introduces further redundancy to allow clubs to manage clashes they may have with other events. The team thresholds will be unchanged - only the men's best 8 results and ladies' best 7 will be counted.  The individual leagues will now count the best 7 results from 12 instead of 6 from 10, thus allowing up to 5 races to be dropped.

The B-League is now split into two divisions, as agreed at the May 19th Road Race Clubs meeting.

In all there were 3,446 HRRL runs in all races, up 13% on 2006-7 - see club stats.  Let's see if we can do even better next year!

Runners and Clubs, please ensure number swaps are notified in advance to organisers for all races and in good time for race deadlines.
Runners not notifying number swaps are liable to be disqualified, and their club may be penalised.
Team vests must be worn to score league points in races.
